Loft clearance
Loft clearance, carried down and taken away
Loft clearance in south-east London starts at £60 plus VAT with RLE Waste Clearance, and a loft of boxes is often a quarter to half a truck, £130 to £180 plus VAT. Two people bring everything down through the hatch to the truck, with transport and disposal included. Send photos from the ladder on WhatsApp for a price.

- Loads from £60 + VAT
What does a loft clearance include?
A loft clearance from RLE Waste Clearance includes two people going up, passing everything down through the hatch and carrying it out to the truck, plus loading time, transport and disposal. Boxes, suitcases, old furniture, rolled-up rugs and Christmas decorations all come down in the same visit.
Prices run from £60 plus VAT for a few boxes to £360 plus VAT for a full truck of 15 cubic yards. Each load size includes loading time, up to 60 minutes for a full truck. Monitors, TVs and mattresses are the only common loft items that cost extra. Send photos from the top of the ladder and your postcode to 07534 244774, and the price is confirmed before work starts, with no obligation to go ahead.

How does a loft clearance work?
A loft clearance works with one person passing things down through the hatch while the other carries them out to the truck. Clearing a loft on your own means endless trips up and down, usually with someone holding the ladder, and you don't need to bring anything down beforehand.
It helps if the hatch is clear and there's some light in the loft. If there's no fixed loft ladder, tell us when you send photos.
Should I clear the loft before a move or a loft conversion?
Clearing the loft before a move means you only pack and pay to shift what you want to keep, and a loft conversion needs an empty space before the builders can start. We can take the loft contents along with a garage clearance or a full house clearance in the same visit, all on one load price.
Once the conversion is under way, the builders' waste is a separate job, covered on our builders' waste page.
Want a price for yours? Send a photo on WhatsApp and we'll tell you the load size and the price.
What photos help price a loft clearance?
A photo from the hatch looking each way is enough to price most lofts. These shots make it more accurate.
- One photo from the hatch looking each way
- Close-ups of anything large, like furniture or a cot
- Any monitors, TVs or mattresses, which cost a little extra
- The landing and stairs below the hatch, if they're narrow
If the photos don't show enough, we'll ask a couple of questions before giving you a price.
When can a loft clearance be booked?
A loft clearance can be booked 7am to 7pm, seven days a week across Chislehurst, Bromley, Lewisham and the rest of south-east London, and if you book before 12pm the job's done the same day. Payment is on completion by card, cash, bank transfer or company cheque, with a waste transfer note and a receipt. Parking fees, fines and the congestion charge are never passed on to you.
RLE Waste Clearance is an upper tier registered waste carrier, number CBDU175566, and you can check it on the Environment Agency public register (external site).

Nothing needs bringing down from the loft first, because that's the part the crew does. Two people go up, bring everything down and carry it to the truck, and the loading time is built into the price. If you'd like to go through boxes first, set aside anything you're keeping and the crew leaves it.
A loft clearance can't include chemicals or other hazardous waste, and any asbestos has to be mentioned before the day. Old tins of paint are fine at £10 plus VAT per 5 litres. The extra items list shows everything else that's priced separately. Mention anything unusual in your photos, and we'll tell you before the day if it can't go.
Old loft insulation can go in a loft clearance, and RLE Waste Clearance brings it down through the hatch with the boxes and furniture, priced by the space it takes in the truck. Insulation is bulky for its weight, so show how much there is in your photos from the hatch. If it might contain asbestos, such as loose vermiculite in an older house, leave it undisturbed, have it checked and tell us what the check finds.
A loft clearance that runs past its included loading time is charged at £30 plus VAT per 30 minutes. Each load price includes a set loading time, from 5 minutes for the smallest load to 60 minutes for a full truck. Lofts can be slower than ground-floor rooms because of the ladder and the stairs, so clear photos help price it properly.
A loft in a flat is cleared the same way, with the crew carrying everything down through the building, stairs included. Tell us which floor you're on and whether there's a lift when you send photos, so the price allows for the carry. Flat clearance covers it if the rest of the flat is going too.
A loft clearance usually needs someone to let the crew in, since the loft is inside the house. If you'd rather not be there, a key safe and clear instructions are enough. The price is agreed on WhatsApp or by phone before work starts, and you can pay by card or bank transfer afterwards.
A loft clearance isn't something the council's bulky waste service covers, because Bromley Council's crew collects from the front of the property only and doesn't come inside. Bulky collections start at £43 for a few items, so everything would have to come down the ladder first. RLE Waste Clearance brings it all down and takes it away, priced by the space it takes.
A mattress from the loft is £10 plus VAT, and an old TV or monitor is £10 plus VAT each, on top of the load. Everything else from the loft, such as boxes, suitcases, broken furniture and Christmas decorations, goes in the load with no extra charge.
